Petra is a veteran teacher of literature, language, drama, and music. Singing and strumming along on the guitar was part of her early childhood upbringing; recorders and rhythmic instruments were added in elementary school, and she always played around with her cousins brass instruments and woodwinds. After teaching herself how to play the piano by sight-reading, she started private lessons in classical piano. As a teenager, she taught elementary piano and sang in choirs; she also continued on the guitar, learning to pick, and played bass guitar in a couple of rock bands. As an adult, she learned to play and perform traditional West-African ensemble drumming. Eventually, she taught music to small groups of high school students, which presented an opportunity for her to also pick up the flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, and baritone. She now feels exulted to have the opportunity to facilitate people, from tiny tots to adults, on their musical journeys again, as any kind of art is a gift for life.
